Wings of Steel double up Vineland, 4-2

ATLANTIC CITY >> The Wings of Steel got back into the win column in an impressive fashion as they went to the shore and defeated the host Vineland Sled Stars, 4-2, in a non-league sledge hockey game Dec. 15 at the Flyers Skate Zone here. The Wings (2-5) erased a pair of one-goal deficits to pick up their second win of the season and scored a season-high four goals in the process. Vineland fell to 2-5-1 with the loss. With the victory, the Wings also avenged a 3-2 loss to their long-time rivals on their home ice in Voorhees Nov. 10. “What a morale booster for the kids,” said Wings coach Tom Brake afterward. “What a win for the kids. They played well together. We haven’t seen four goals in a game in years.”

Bennett shut outs Wings of Steel

VOORHEES >> The Bennett Blazers shut out the Wings of Steel, 3-0, in a Delaware Valley Hockey League Sled Division game Dec. 9 at the Virtua Flyers Skate Zone here. Tolu Ojo got the Blazers on the board when he scored 3:06 after the opening face-off. It was a tight-checking, back-and-forth game for the next 26 minutes of action as the goalies - Bennett’s Samantha McMinn and Steven Belcher - stopped everything that was sent their way. Things opened up in the third period as the Blazers and Wings of Steel both had more shots - seven and six, respectively - in the last 15 minutes they they did in the first two periods combined.

Wings Adult team wins very first game

Michael “BuddhaMan” Mauger scored two goals and Justin DeStafney scored his first goal as a Wing as the Wings of Steel Adult Sled Hockey team began its journey with a 3-1 win over the Hagerstown Kodiaks. Getting her first start in nets for the Wings of Steel was Hope Bevilhymer, and she was solid in nets and made several saves down low to keep the Kodiaks off the board, with the game still in the balance early in the third period.

Inaugural Adult Wings of Steel Golf Outing

On Friday, October 5th the newly formed Wings of Steel adult team held their inaugural golf outing. Teaming up with our friends, the Cherokee Chiefs, the Wings were ready to tee it up at Ramblewood Country Club, which has served as the home for the youth golf outing for the last 12 years. With 80 golfers and over 112 friends and family for dinner and fairly good weather, the Wings had a great start to their first fundraiser.
