Dear Prospective Wings of Steel Sponsor:

Please let me take this time to introduce myself. My name is Tom Brake and I am the head coach for the Wings of Steel. Can you imagine having a child with a disability and then looking into their eyes and telling them that they cannot play sports with all the other boys and girls. We are a sled hockey team that gives disabled kids the opportunity to play hockey by skating on the ice on sleds, using two hockey sticks with picks to propel them across the ice. For the past 10 years, the Wings of Steel have provided this athletic experience to physically disabled kids, ages 6 through 18. They practice every Thursday at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ. Two of our players competed in the 2010 Paralympic games with the USA Sled Hockey team and took home the gold medal.

We are currently seeking your financial support to help a child, from Riverside, and a family member travel to this years annual disabled sled hockey tournament in Dallas, TX. The tournament is from April 12th thru the 15th. I have estimated the hotel, rental car, and roundtrip airfare for two for three nights to be $1500.

Unfortunately, last years tournament was in Minnesota and our team was not represented because of the expense. So this year I felt I needed to look for financial support elsewhere to help offset the cost for our families. We have a big fundraiser in April, a golf outing, in which the money raised is used for equipment, uniforms and ice time. Because our families have already had to endure the personal sacrifice of raising a child with a disability, I wanted to try to reduce the added financial burden that the families already have taken on. I am writing this letter in hopes that you might be able to help with a donation to support one of our families and help make a difference in their lives!

I would like to take this time to thank you for reading this letter and giving what you can to support our team. Any donations are tax deductible through our affiliation with Sled Hockey America, a non-profit 501(3) c organization. Please make checks payable to the Wings of Steel. A tax letter will be provided for all donations received. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at (856) 261-6880 or emailing me at Thank you for helping keeping a child’s dream alive!
