11th Annual Golf Outing, Another Success!!

On Friday April 27 at Ramblewood Country Club the Wings of Steel held their annual Golf Outing and despite the threat of bad weather all week, at 10:30 AM the sun came out and the rain subsided. All week I was getting calls and texts asking about a rain date. My response was we will be fine; Mother Nature is a sled hockey fan! Secretly though I was concerned as all the weather forecasters had rain in the forecast, until Thursday, when it appeared that by lunchtime, we would be good. Clean living as I like to say, won out.

As the golfers prepared to tee off we had our 50/50 drawing and Bill Easton, won, but gave it back, as well as the evening 50/50 won by our own Mike Goebel, who also gave back his winnings! Very generous on both guys parts. We honored Joe DiLauro, who has been with us from the beginning and travels from Boston each year, with Don Saleski, also a supporter from the beginning; we gave Joe a Flyers jersey with number 11, in honor of Saleski and our 11th annual outing.

With almost 200 golfers and over 270 dinner guests, the evening moved along nicely. With Brian Startare once again the emcee, as he has always done, he got people to spend money. We had a few new sponsors and just to name a few, MJ Kelly Electric, Cooper Electric, M.A.D.Contractors and Endurance Auto and Body. With many live auction items up for grabs, Endurance Auto purchased an autographed Flyers stick and gave it to Mikayla Johnson, who scored her first goal at the disabled Festival in Chicago. Just one of the many kind gestures showed by our supporters.

Our outgoing Captain, Paulie “Freight Train” Tursi, gave a rousing speech alongside Yosef “YO BRO” Ismael. Both boys are aging out and will join the newly formed Wings of Steel Adult team. Many thanks to the parent, friends, family and volunteers that came out to support our kids! Mark your calendars - October 5 will be the outing to support the newly formed adult team!
